SMART MMS and 3G Internet settings for your iPhone 4

Warning! Be sure you know how to reboot your iphone and what are the nuances of rebooting a jailbroken or unlocked iphones! You may loose your phone signal or settings if you don’t know how to reboot and enable your unlocked settings! Proceed with extreme caution!

Globe telecom is the official iPhone carrier in the Philippines but that doesn’t mean you can’t use a SMART sim loaded iPhone to connect to the net. You don’t get these settings from SMART either as they will only tell you “iphone isn’t supported”. This will only work on “unlocked” iphone. Apple has just recently released a factory unlocked iPhone 4s but I’m not sure if its available in legit iPhone stores locally.  I’ll leave the “unlocking” part to the techies but if you’re a noob, legit iPhone user, I don’t recommend unlocking it as this will void its warranty .

There are times when I prefer using SMART to connect to the net. SMART seem to have the widest coverage and strongest signal where I live and where I commonly go. In other areas, Globe seem to have the fastest net speed connection, and SUN Cellular the cheapest connection rate. So again, it’s your choice. Here are the steps you need to do to enable your SMART sim-using- iPhone, connect to the net.

SMART internet and MMS settings

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap general
  3. Tap network
  4. Tap Cellular Data Network
  5. Edit the sections Cellular Data and MMS using the following settings
  • Cellular Data
  • APN: internet
  • Username: [leave this blank]
  • Password: [leave this blank]
  • MMS
  • APN: mms
  • Username: [leave this blank]
  • Password: [leave this blank]
  • MMSC: http://10.102.61.238:8002/mmsc
  • MMS Proxy: 203.177.042.214:8080
  • MMS Max Message Size:
  • MMS UA Prof URL: [leave this blank]

Reboot your iPhone and enjoy surfing the net!

By the way, be wary of Smart net connection charges and iphone apps that connect to the net on the “background”. This may easily drain your post/prepaid sim load! To turn off SMART connection settings completely, turn off 3G, Cellular Data and append any suffix to the settings above (i.e. mmssm, internetsm, http://10.102.61.238:8002/mmscsm ).
