Closing “Exit Doors” for Filipino Doctors…

Is this really the solution to the shortage of Filipino doctors?

doc-problem-cartoon.jpg

Not allowing Filipino Doctors from leaving the country may seem to be a very “noble” solution to the worsening exodus of MD’s from the Philippines. But have we identified the root cause? Is this just a simple case of doctors wanting a better earnings abroad or something else?Is this not a desperate (and a knee jerk) move for a worsening heath care problem?

And the Health secretary seem not yet ‘decided” on whether there is already a “shortage” of doctors tending to Filipinos. God, and I though I was just I who is naive...

We already have a shortage of doctors and its worsening! We are also running out of paramedical personnel, medicines and facilities!

But the solution seem to be wanting. It’s like plugging a “water pipe” (out) with bubble gums instead of installing a new “pipe” in. Sooner the pressure will just explode.

Any bright ideas?
